Obituary of Anna T. Herko

Anna T. Herko of Rochester passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017, at age 89, surrounded by loving family whose lives were enriched by her generous spirit and who will miss her deeply. Predeceased by her adoring husband of 60 years, Robert J. Herko, and son Rick Herko. Survived by her sons Joseph Herko (Patty Roberts) and Robert Herko; daughter Renee (John) Magee; grandchildren Rebecca (James) Rosso, Ivan (Lynn) Herko, Margaret (Simon) Webb, Rachel Herko, John (Chen) Magee, Madeleine Magee, Patrick Magee, Ellie Magee, and Max Magee; and many great-grandchildren, in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and other family and friends. A native of Marseilles, France, Mrs. Herko immigrated to the U.S. at age 18 after meeting at her family's bar and falling in love with Robert Herko of the U.S. Army, who was stationed in France during World War II. After marrying in Marseille, in 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Herko moved for a short time to Scranton, PA, before relocating to the north side of East Rochester and buying a home on Magnolia Ave., where they would entertain family with homemade gnocchi suppers, spoil their grandchildren, and build so many memories for over 50 years. The family wishes to express sincere thanks for the tender care given to Anna by the staff on Hope 2 at Monroe Community Hospital, especially Missy and Connie. Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 5, from 1–3 p.m. at Harloff Funeral Home, 803 S. Washington St, East Rochester. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome's Church, 207 Garfield St, East Rochester. Interment, White Haven Memorial Park. Those wishing may direct donations to St. Jerome's Church in Anna's memory.
