Obituary of Edmund Patrick Finucane

January 28, 1947 – April 8, 2025

      

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edmund Patrick Finucane, who left us on April 8, 2025. Born in Tarbert, County Kerry, Ireland, on January 28, 1947, Ed was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary (Morrissey) Finucane, his beloved son-in-law, Shawn Mulvaney and a younger brother that died in Ireland.  Ed’s in-laws Madge and Eugene O’Dwyer.  

      Ed is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret (O'Dwyer) Finucane, and their children; sons Edmund P. (Lorie Ebert) FinucaneThomas (Erin) Finucane.  Daughter Mairead (Mike) Chesterton.  His memory will live on through his cherished grandchildren: Clara and Lila MulvaneyQuinton ChestertonEmily and Lyla ZarconeErin and Holly Ebert, as well as his adopted grandchildren, Reilly HallJack, Conner, and Gracie Sweet. He is also survived by his sister, MaryJo (Jay) Rodman, and his brother, Leo (Carol) Finucane.  Brothers-in-laws:  Frank (Elsie)O’DwyerKieran (Karen) O’Dwyer, sisters-in-laws: Noeleen (John) GriffinJosephine (Matt) Kozlowski Sarah (Frank) Monna, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, both here and in Ireland.

Ed’s family emigrated from Ireland to Rochester, NY, in 1960, where Ed attended SS Peter & Paul's Grammar SchoolEdison Technical High School, and later Monroe Community College.    

         Following his education, Ed joined the Electrical Union, Local 86, where he completed his apprenticeship to become a licensed electrician. He worked as an electrician for 58 years, contributing to several major construction projects throughout New York State. His career culminated in a position with Conrail Railroad, where his responsibilities included maintaining electrical switches and controls along the Rochester to Buffalo line, and operating the swing bridge over the Genesee River outlet in Charlotte.

           Ed’s life was also marked by his deep commitment to service. Through his work with the East Rochester and Penfield Ambulance Services, he and Margaret each spent over 50 years as volunteer Emergency Medical Service providers, dedicating countless hours to their community. In recognition of their service, they were each honored with Civic Awards for 50 years of service by their Town, County and State representatives. Ed was also the proud recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award and the Paul Harris Award from the East Rochester Rotary.

        A man of remarkable generosity and skill, Ed could fix anything and was always there to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors in need. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Ed will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but especially by his “Lady” Margaret.

Viewing at Harloff Funeral Home, East Rochester   Date: Monday April 14, Time: 4-7 PM

Funeral service will be held Tuesday  04/15/2025 at10:00AM, St. Jerome’s Church, 207 Garfield St, East Rochester, followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
