Johann Horvath
December 25, 1948 – July 5, 2025
Johann Horvath, a Vietnam War veteran, proud union tradesman, and world traveler with a quiet strength and a generous heart, passed away peacefully at the age of 76.
Born on Christmas Day in 1948 in Hungary, Johann later made East Rochester, NY, his longtime home. He served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning a Commendation Medal for his service — something he rarely spoke of, but his family never forgot.
After returning home, he built a career as a skilled pipefitter with the Local 13 and Local 669 unions. He was the kind of man who showed his love through hard work — the steady, dependable presence you could always count on.
Johann didn’t need many words to make an impact. His love for his family was deep and constant. He is survived by his wife of many years, Nancy, and their sons, James and John Horvath, who always knew he was in their corner. His three grandchildren — Greyson, Addison, and Angelyn — were the light of his life, and he never tired of hearing what they were up to or seeing their latest accomplishments.
In retirement, Johann and Nancy shared a passion for traveling together. Exploring new places around the world brought them joy, perspective, and memories that their family will always treasure.
He is also survived by his siblings, Theresa Simon, Maria (Rob) Thayer, Joey Csagola, and Peter (Millie) Csagola; and by his niece, Mary Francis Horvath, Kelly, and Kayla Csagola.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 11th at 11:00 a.m. at White Haven Memorial Park, in All Season's Chapel.
A private inurnment will follow, with a private reception to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Johann’s memory to Veterans Outreach, honoring the values of service, humility, and care that shaped his life.
Johann was never one to seek the spotlight, but the people who knew him — and loved him — knew just how much he carried, how deeply he cared, and how fully he lived.
He will be remembered always for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the quiet, enduring love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
