Pauline L. Scalise Obituary

Pauline L. Scalise, of East Rochester, passed away peacefully on July 13 at the age of 90. She lived a long and full life, marked by kindness. In her final days, she was surrounded by those who loved her, sharing memories, and comforting her with the same care and devotion she had always shown them.

She was predeceased by her parents, Louise and Paul Petti; her beloved husband, Charles P. Scalise; her daughter, Mary L. Balme; and her siblings, Joseph Petti, Angela Kress, and Pat Petti. Pauline held their memories close to her heart and found comfort in the thought of being reunited with them one day.

Pauline is survived by her sister, Mary Robbins; daughter, Linda Schamberger (Peter) and son-in-law, Robert S. Balme Jr. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas DiMeo (Samantha), Lisa Fletcher (Jimmy), Lyndsay Compitello (Rachel), and Robert Balme (Kevin) and Jeff Schamberger (Erin) as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Niko and Anthony DiMeo, Peyton Houghton, and James and Charlotte Fletcher and many nieces and nephews.

Pauline spent many years working at the University of Rochester where she provided clerical support in the Biochemistry and Oncology departments. She later continued her career at Eastman Dental where she worked for several more years before retiring.

In retirement, Pauline, also lovingly known as “Nani”, found joy in spending time with her treasured grandchildren, tending to her garden, and embracing the simple pleasures of life. As her grandchildren grew and started families of their own, the greatest joy in her later years became her great-grandchildren who brought her endless pride and happiness.

Pauline was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, and fierce independence. She bravely overcame cancer twice and faced life’s hardships with quiet endurance. Even in difficult times, she carried on with dignity and determination. Her legacy is one of perseverance, deep love for her family, and a spirit that never gave up.

May she rest in peace, reunited with those she loved and missed so dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wilmot Cancer Center in Pauline’s name.
