Marianne Frieda Erdmann passed away November 25, 2025. She was born December 15, 1927, to Fritz and Frieda Sonntag Weigel. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Werner Erdmann. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Pike and son-in-law, Richard; as well as her grandson, Christopher Pike and granddaughter, Jennifer Marting (Thomas).
She was born into a large multigenerational farm family in Saxony, Germany. The farm provided food for many during the dark days of World War II. She was not a farm girl and trained as a draftsperson. This career choice led her to meet and fall in love with Werner, a Mechanical Engineer. He was a former soldier, who fought on the Russian Front and spent years as a POW in Siberia, with a passion to leave Germany as soon as possible. They married and began a life together in Chicago, Illinois. They had one child.
Gradually, they made their way east, settling first in Buffalo and finally in Rochester. Marianne began a successful career as a draftsperson for Gleason Works. Together they traveled often back to Germany and elsewhere, like Hawaii and Bermuda. Her attention to detail lent her to being an accomplished seamstress and a talented artist. After retiring, her greatest joy has been watching her beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer, grow and thrive over the past 30 years. She was always grateful for having “a very good life.”
The family is grateful for the care she received over the last year at the Landing of Brighton. And deeply grateful for the amazing end of life care delivered by Strong Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.
