Thomas Edward Krieger passed away on January 25, 2026 at age 80 in Fairport, New York. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen (Santino DiPaola), his sister Joan Krieger, his brother Richard (Susan Frances) and his nephew Nicholas Krieger. He leaves behind his loving wife Margie (Calamito) of 57 years, daughter Jeannette and son-in-law Matthew Kanefsky, granddaughter Elise Kanefsky, brother Robert (Linda Borgognoni), nephew James Dansereau, niece Lorraine Dansereau (Andrew Buller), nephew Rick Krieger and wife (Elvia Valdes), nephew Justin Krieger (Bridget Cramer) among many other nieces, nephews and relatives.
Tom was born on August 6th, 1945 in Jersey City, NJ to his parents Joan (Fogarty) and Richard Krieger, the fourth of 5 children. He attended Queen of Peace schools in North Arlington, graduating in 1963. During his teenage years he developed an interest in and love of electronics and amateur radio, leading him to enlist in the U.S. Air Force after graduation. Following basic training in Illinois, he was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in the 341st Missile Wing in Great Falls, of which he always said, “There was a girl behind every tree & there were no trees”. As an electrician, he received training as a missile facilities specialist and a ground radio operator and worked maintaining and servicing Minuteman missile facilities.
Tom returned to New Jersey after being discharged from the Air Force in 1967 and soon after took a copier repair technician position at Xerox in Newark. He married his wife Margie, who he met on a blind date, at Sacred Heart Church in Lyndhurst in 1968. Tom had a 37-year career with Xerox, including roles as an engineer and documentation and training specialist. His job resulted in moves to Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and finally Fairport, New York. He continued to work after retirement at the Veteran’s Outreach Center in Rochester, teaching computer skills to military veterans.
Tom was known for his dry sense of humor and enjoyed reading, music, tinkering with electronics and computers, and even took up sailing for a time. He was an avid amateur radio operator (KA2X) and a long-time member of ARRL, earning the highest level of amateur radio licensing and contacting other operators in every U.S. state and in over 100 countries on 6 continents over the years. After retirement he also focused on a second hobby from his childhood, model railroading, and constructed an impressive model train layout covering half the basement. Tom was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed doting on his granddaughter Elise.
His family would like to thank the staff of the Fairport Rehab and Nursing Center, as well as numerous home aides, the students of Nazareth College and staff of Lifetime Care for Tom’s physical therapy and care over the past 7 years.
A memorial service will be held at Harloff Funeral Home in East Rochester on a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either of the following Parkinson’s foundations (www.apdaParkinson.org or www.parkinson.org).
Tom's tribute video will be available to be viewed once completed.
