Obituary of Mary Ellen Urzetta

She died as she lived with beauty, strength, and grace. Mary Ellen Trescott Urzetta was born on July 3, 1926, and passed on September 11, 2023, at St. Ann’s Home. Mary Ellen was a proud member of the Class of ’44 of East Rochester High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Nazareth College in 1948. She began her career as an art teacher at the Harley School where she taught until 1953 when she had her first child. Raising her four children became her passion and she was always involved in their lives and activities. Mary Ellen lived a wonderful life always cherishing her family and always being a hard working, energetic, and gentle woman. She was steadfast in her faith, and she approached life with a sense of goodness, kindness, and love of others. Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Sam Urzetta; parents, Helen & Carl Trescott; brother, Eugene Trescott and sister-in-law, Patricia Trescott; son-in-law, Sam Tortorici; mother and father-in-law, Palma & Carmine Urzetta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nick & Alvy Urzetta, Frank (Babe) & Lorraine Urzetta, Joseph Urzetta, Fred Urzetta, Theresa & Larry Ferrari, Mary & Russell Catizone, Lucy Fornieri, and Rose Urzetta. Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Helen Tortorici, Joseph (Vicki) Urzetta, Peter (Margaret) Urzetta, Michael (Teresa) Urzetta; grandchildren, Jason Tortorici, Jessica (Sean) Perry, Kyle and Ryan Urzetta, Landon, Cole, and Riley Urzetta, Gus Urzetta; great grandchildren, Ella & Mara Perry; sister-in-law, Marilyn Urzetta; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; many cherished friends including Nick Verzella & Tom Conners. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of the SCU at St. Ann’s Home on Portland Avenue for the amazing care and love they gave to Mary Ellen and to all of us throughout her stay with them. We are also grateful to the wonderful staff of Rochester Regional Health Hospice Care. Family and friends are welcome to visit the funeral home on Sunday, September 17 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated to honor Mary Ellen on Monday, September 18 at 9:00 AM at the Church of St. Jerome in East Rochester.
