Obituary of Audrey McCarthy

Audrey Jane McCarthy, 88, of East Rochester, New York, passed away on December 24, 2023. Audrey was born in Rochester, New York, on October 6, 1935, to Dorothy and William McLaughlin. Audrey graduated from East Rochester High School in 1953. In 1955, Audrey married John Leo McCarthy and together they had seven children. She raised her children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Audrey graduated from EOC in 1979 with a degree in business and worked for WBBF until she left in 1981 to become a caregiver at home. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, John, daughter, Monica McCarthy, loving mother, Dorothy, father, William, and three brothers, Wayne, Norbert, and Harry. She is survived by her children, Joy Skinner, Michael McCarthy, Mathew McCarthy, Shawn McCarthy, Therese Rowan (Dan), Dan McCarthy (Denise), Sheila Drew (Bob), and her two sisters, Margaret Kwiatkowski and Theresa Stookey. Audrey left a legacy of twenty-one grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The kids loved their Grandma Audrey, and she always cherished her time with them. Audrey was a beautiful soul with an exceptional spirit. She had a quick wit and was full of laughter. She spent her life working hard, taking care of her family, and serving God. To visit Audrey’s home was to be received with love, a warm welcome, and a plate of her famous barbequed eggs. Whether it was the grandchildren, who would be met with games or a gift from her jewelry box, or a stranger, who would be welcomed with a cup of coffee and conversation, it was sure to be an uplifting experience. She brightened every life that she touched. She was a faithful member of St. Jerome’s Parish since birth and spoke highly and often about her savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith will continue to be an inspiration to all. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her. Visitation will be held at Harloff Funeral Home, 803 South Washington Street, East Rochester, NY 14445 on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on January 19, 2024, at St. Jerome’s Church, 207 Garfield Street, East Rochester, NY 14445.
