Obituary of Salvatore Morano

Morano, Col. Sam East Rochester: Colonel Salvatore (Sam) Charles Morano. Called home December 26, 2011. Survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Marian (Chudyk); loving children, Mark Morano (Janice) of East Amherst NY, Andrea (Anthony) Quercia of Pittsford NY, Dr. Christopher Morano of Milwaukee WI, Regina Morano (Charles Lattuca) of Baltimore MD, Mercedes (Eric) Fredericksen of Pittsford, NY, Michele (Jeffrey) Holbrook of Phoenix AZ, & Tamara (Scott) Barasch of New Canaan CT; treasured grandchildren Jasmine, Isabella, Julianne & Theresa Morano; Jonathan, Allegra, & Madeleine Quercia, Jack and Dane Fredericksen, Findlay & Cav Holbrook, and Alexandra, Katherine & Matthew Barasch; devoted sisters Eleanor Manfredi of Aiken SC, Mary Doescher of Victor NY; sister-in-law Betty Chudyk of East Rochester; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Antonio Morono, mother Amata Morono, and brothers G. Joseph, Nicholas and Raymond Morono. Sam was a graduate of University of Rochester, Cornell University and UCLA. Most proud of his years as a history and Spanish teacher at Aquinas, he was also a devoted public servant. A World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired Colonel also of the New York Guard, Sam's help and support of other veterans to access health care and assistance for their families was legendary. For more than 30 years he organized the East Rochester Memorial Day Parade and annual Veterans Day Dinner, raised money to build monuments honoring East Rochester's veterans and war dead, founded the East Rochester American Legion Post #1917, named for his brother Nicholas Morano. Friends may call Friday, December 30, 1-4 and 7-9 at the HARLOFF Funeral Home 803 South Washington Street in East Rochester. Sam's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, December 31 at St. Jerome's in East Rochester. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park.
