Obituary of Arthur Leonard Dunn

Dunn, Arthur L. East Rochester: Arthur L. Dunn, retired Lt. Col. US Air Force, died on June 13, 2012 after a brief illness. Born Arthur Dembowski to Edward and Eugenia in 1923, Art took an early interest in planes and worked for Page Airways at the age of 12. Arthur was a decorated Air Force Pilot and WWII Veteran who flew B17's during his service in the European Theatre of the war. He attended Buffalo State Teachers college where he met and married Kathleen Gallagher. He and Kay settled in East Rochester where he began an Industrial Arts teaching career that spanned 35 years during which time he taught over 6000 students. Together he and Kay raised 8 children. Patricia (Robert) O'Connell of Southwick, MA, Michael (Wendy) Dunn of Penfield, Timothy Dunn (predeceased), Karen (Bill) Falandays of Wilmington, DE, Marianne (Geoff) Bartlett of Silver City, NM, Ellen (Steven) Sanna of Fairport, A. James (Shannon) Dunn of East Rochester, Kacey (Jeffrey) Sturtz of Marion. Art was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Gallagher) in 1986, his son, Timothy in 1989, his sister, Amelia Nugent in 2004 and his second wife, Thelma Reid in 2011. In addition to his children, he is survived by his sister, Bertha Campbell in Basalt, CO and 20 grandchildren: Thomas (Amparo) & Meara O'Connell, Adam (Robyn) Dunn, Jake, Kallie & Ben Falandays, Katelyn Bartlett & Jaclyn (Justin) Bartlett-Gerleve, Jesse, Leigh, Michelle, Megan, Luke & Jack Sanna, Timothy, Matthew & Charlie Dunn, Mackenzie, Caroline & RJ Sturtz and 1 great grandson, Jason Gerleve. "Art will be missed by his family and many friends. We all celebrated his life with laughter while he was with us. He is welcomed home by those who left before." Art's Family will receive friends, Friday, June 22nd from 5-8 pm at the HARLOFF Funeral Home 803 South Washington Street in East Rochester. Art's Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9am on Saturday, June 23rd at St. Jerome's Church. Committal with Honor Guard Services to follow at White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Isaiah House, Disabled American Vets or the Humane Society; all of which hold a special place in Art's heart.
