Rosalie was the best godmother anyone could have. She always had funny little stories to tell. I always looked forward to her annual Christmas letter to come in the mail. I admired her for always involving herself in so many things....I think that rubbed off on me. She was a bright light and always gave me hope when I needed it the most, she always had the right things to say. She always called me her funny bunny....I miss you "fairy godmother"

I met Rosalie about 4 years ago at the east side Y in the Lifespan Resource Center. I was immediately drawn to her. Her work in the community was impressive. Helping with a couple of her projects was rewarding & fun. I remember the day she came up with her "sock it to me" project. Her beautiful blue eyes twinkled 5jl5awhen she came up with the name. This last time she had collected over 800 pairs of socks. I feel privileged to have met her & become one of her friends. RIP dear Rosalie.

Rosalie, you were one of the first members I met when I started at the Eastside YMCA. I remember standing next to you in the pool during Aqua Fit with Ron and you were showing me the ropes. You gave all to the YMCA - I am a better person to have known you. RIP my friend - you are truly missed.

“Angels can fly because they can take themselves lightly.”
― G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy (1908)
I know I worked for an Angel, Ms. Rosalie Rosini....
I only met Rosalie this past October through her dear cousin, Violet. Upon meeting Rosalie I was instantly attracted to her disarming personality. My trepidation about walking into her home with work boots was quickly and summarily shoo shooed as she warmly ushered me in! She stated that she had a few handyman chores, though in truth, glancing about the homey and well-lit kitchen - I saw nothing out of order and said so. Rosalie heartily laughed and said; “Oh not in here, though maybe we could use some fresh paint. Come, come, follow me upstairs where I need some shelf repair.” Amazingly she got up those step faster than me, then apologized for going so fast! I imprinted the pleasant kitchen aroma wafting up the stairs with me. I had to pause a moment near the top because she’d disappeared from view. As I called out to find which way she turned, I saw a Catholic Crucifix hanging nearby and told Rosalie that I hadn’t seen one of those in a while, since my altar boy days! She smiled and told me a quick personal history story regarding that cross which warmed my heart and brought many good childhood memories back to me.
Anyway, I looked over her shelf needs and made some advisory comments and we agreed that I’d come back in the near future to install shelves and raise her dehumidifier to eye level in the basement as well. Amazingly the next weekend I was there because my schedule opened up.
(That hardly ever happens. Yet because it allowed me to work and BE with Rosalie I was really excited.)
Rosalie met me at the side door that following Saturday with a radiant smile and said; “Come in. Come in! I have coffee and donuts for you!” She wouldn’t let me get to work until she knew I saw where the donuts and coffee were! “Eat ‘em up. I got them for you. You said you like donuts!” I made quick work of the upstairs shelves install and got right down to the basement project. (After I chowed 2 donuts and a hot coffee!)
The placement of the basement dehumidifier proved a little more challenging due to electric outlet availability and Rosalie’s limited reach.
(“God has a sense of humor. Angels come in all sizes.” I thought as she carefully moved things aside for me.)
I remarked how her basement reminded me of my own growing up in Rochester. Rosalie honored her ancestors. She spoke very lovingly of her mother and father. She proudly showed me sections of her basement where her mother and others of her family, hand dug out walls and floor. She respected and cared for their (her) home.
Lingering later, (over more coffee and donuts,) we had a lengthy conversation at her kitchen table before we settled up. She had touched on the subject of death several times, even remarking that her parents lived there until they died. And now she had a friend who was currently dying of cancer and didn’t want anyone to know. I shared with her that I just lost an aunt AND a good friend weeks before. Rosalie replied; “It’s funny really, death. Everybody dies. Everybody. Nobody WANTS to die but you know what? It must be a nice place, heaven, ‘cuz nobody comes back!”
With that she laughed and our small talk ended. I was on cloud 9 driving home. I gushed to my wife we’re going to have to go see Rosalie and take our daughter along too.
Unfortunately that never happened.
I’m recalling the Angelic irony in Rosalie’s Christmas card we received this week. She had written; “Other travels also filled the year. (and more to come)”
How prophetic.
I know I worked for an Angel.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Rosalie's passing. She was a wonderful lady. I knew her through the Eastside Family YMCA. Rosalie was energetic, enthusiastic, kind, funny and joyful. She was involved in different aspects of our community here at the Eastside YMCA and enriched the lives of so many who knew her. I will miss her grace, her laughter, her fun, her love of life. I will miss so much about her, but I am so glad I knew her. I know I won't see her anymore, but her memory and spirit will remain in our halls. She will always be a part of us, she is still nearby. When old friends gather in kindness and laughter, I know she will be there joining in. God bless you, Rosalie.
