Obituary of Charles V. Sargent

Charles V. “Chuck” Sargent

EAST ROCHESTER - On February 24th, suddenly after a brief illness, one day after celebrating his 69th birthday. Chuck is predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Marion; sister Loraine Cordaro, niece Maureen Femiano and brother-in-law Lou Shaffer. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Barbara; brothers Tom (Linda) and John; sisters, Sandy Burke, Barbara Kristan, Marilyn Shaffer, Maureen (Dennis) Hann; many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, aunts and uncles, many cousins, and friends.
Chuck was the owner of Sargent Collision where he operated the business for many years at the corner of West Chestnut and Main St. and later on Lincoln Parkway off of Despatch Drive. After he injured his back, he worked as an independent contractor delivering medications to area nursing homes until his passing. He was not a morning person unless his friends asked him to go hunting or fishing, sometimes staying up all night so he wouldn’t oversleep and miss the outing. He spent much time on the golf course during the summer, and was a passionate Yankee fan who tried to get to a game in the Bronx at least once a season.
Chuck was a real people person, always the life of the party; if there wasn’t a party he would start one. He was a consummate Euchre player, who would play the game to win. He had a big heart and would do anything for family or friends. Chuck was a Vietnam Veteran and was a proud member of the American Legion Post 1917 in East Rochester.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 27, 4-7 PM at Harloff Funeral Home, 803 S. Washington St., East Rochester, where there will be eulogies following calling hours. His Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 28, 9:30 AM at St. Jerome’s Church, 207 Garfield St. East Rochester. Interment White Haven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to The Veteran’s Outreach Center, 447 South Ave. Rochester, NY 14620.
