Obituary of Leonard A. LaBombard

Leonard “Papa” LaBombard May 6th, 1927 – April 25th, 2021 Leonard went to meet his Lord peacefully on April 25th at 93 years young. Leonard married Virginia Matejeck on January 15th, 1955 but was sadly widowed on December 26th, 1984. Leonard is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen (Wyatt) Doremus and Judith (Ronald – Deceased) Joslin, his five grandchildren, Joshua (Mary) Doremus, Benjamin Doremus, Virginia (Kevin) Travers, Timothy Joslin and Emma (Steven Sullivan) Joslin and two great-grandchildren, Madora and Lila Doremus. He is also survived by his siblings, Lawrence (Ruth) LaBombard and Margery Kocik. Leonard led a storied life – after being hit by a car at age sixteen, Leonard had to drop out of school to heal and then help pay the bills. He held several jobs at a time throughout his life, most notably as a school bus driver for the Penfield School District and as Head Chef for the Rochester Psychiatric Center. He also repaired lawn mowers and other small machinery for neighbors, friends and family, including all of the family cars. Despite his burly build and pronounced limp from the accident, Leonard was able to polka his way around the dance floor, lifting the ladies up and spinning them around. He loved a good steak and a nice scotch. He could often be seen camping, wearing his straw cowboy hat and holding on to a large fire stick, teaching his children and then his grandchildren how to properly tend a fire whilst drinking a nice, cool beer. Leonard, for all his gruff, was a man with a heart of gold, full of love for his family and a lifetime of friends. He was always ready with his big truck for anyone who needed a ride, his handyman hands for anyone who needed a car repaired or tinkering to solve a mechanical problem. For a man of so few words, he leaves a substantial silence behind that will be filled with a legacy of laughter, memories and love. We love you, Papa. Be at peace. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to a charity of your choice. *******PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION OF CALLING HOURS. *******Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 29 from 4-7 pm at JENNINGS, NULTON AND MATTLE FUNERAL HOME, 1704 PENFIELD ROAD, PENFIELD.
