Janet (Mrs. Gerace, as we called her) was a ‘second Mom’ next-door during our childhood on Duncott Road. I will remember always her tremendous caring and thoughtfulness toward my sisters and me. Janet’s friendship with my Mom will forever be treasured. Her shining eyes were matched by her bright laughter!

Janet was one of the first to WELCOME our Bogdon family to Fairport, and the Rochester area, when we moved from Detroit. She was a wonderful and helpful next-door neighbor on Duncott Road from 1969 until we moved, at the time of the Great Rochester Ice Storm, in 1991. We Bogdons and the Geraces became quite close as families, sharing similar episodes of child rearing, garden tending, and the exchange of home grown foods and the lovely results of cooking them. We shared the time of raccoons birthing in their chimney, swapped stories of car woes, and enjoyed countless yard conversations. Janet and Marianne, in the interest of avoiding the cold weather, tried to talk Bob and Bernie into digging a tunnel between our homes so they could visit more closely. When we added Nanci to our roster, Janet was very supportive with tasks involving a new born. Throughout elementary and high school, our girls Carrie, Beth, and Nanci had great friendships with the Gerace boys James and Tom. Janet was a caring and loyal next-door neighbor and a true friend. We will treasure our memories of her always.
Miss your person Janet, but will enjoy your Spirit. Marianne & Bernie Bogdon

I was crushed to hear of Janet’s passing. We were colleagues at Canandaigua Junior Academy, and grew to be friends. When she left us to go to Hilton, we often met to have lunch and catch up on each other’s lives. She was loving and caring, and I’ve been thinking back about all the times over the years she gifted me with that love and care. From our earliest years, when she helped me through a breast cancer scare, made me a Chuck Mangione mix tape, and sent thoughtful gifts for my little son, through more recent times, when she was literally the first person to arrive at calling hours when my parents-in-law passed away, her care was constant. I will treasure that always.
She loved and treasured you, her family, and you all are in my heart and prayers!

Dear Bob, My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Anyone who really knew Janet knew how really special she was. I fondly remember her reading the lesson/s during Sunday church services. They always portrayed more meaning when Janet read them. It was obvious how important her faith was to her. Know that all who knew her will miss her deeply. I'm here to help where I can, Bob. Please keep in touch.

My children have fond memories of Mrs. Gerace as a REACH teacher at Northwood. She was kind, caring and worked hard to provide stimulating activities for them. She helped make Northwood Elementary School a special place. Her loving influence will live on in the many students she worked with. What a blessing she was!

Dear Bob & Gerace family, I am so saddened to hear of Janet's passing. She & I were colleagues at Northwood Elementary , Hilton School District. She was not only an excellent teacher and mentor to many but also a real "lady". Our grandson was a student in her 6th grade class .& she always had time for him & lead by example. Janet will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Family was her treasure & I know you will carry on her wonderful legacy of grace, Christian values, esteem for education and family values to honor her memory. May God bless you & keep you and grant you His peace. Warmest regards, JoAnn Kehrli-Merlau
