I met Charlie through Wendall Domm. We would go motorcycle riding every Friday morning for breakfast and to harass the waitresses. Well Charlie wouldn't participate in the harassment. He was always too much of a gentleman. The thing I remember most about Charlie was that you had to dress appropriately that is i.e. leather jacket, boots, proper helmet, etc. He would call you out if you were not protected. And boy did we ride, Charlie did not countenance stopping for anything. You had to be sure you had a full tank of gas. We usually did in excess of 100 miles. If there were any delays you would hear "ARE WE RIDING OR WHAT?
I miss him very much!
My condolences to his family.

Cindy and I send out our Love and Sympathy to Jean, Curt, Donna and families. We have memories to last a lifetime. There was a motorcycle advertisement years ago that read: "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". Charlie Penoyer was living proof of that ad. Charlie will be sadly missed.

Jean, Curt and Donna,
I’m so sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing.
He was the motorcycle dad on the street, spreading the love of the sport to many of Curt’s friends, an appreciation that has stayed with me to this day. If I remember correctly (it was roughly 50 years ago), Charlie took a number of us on the street to see On Any Sunday when it first came out. I bought my first motorcycle from the Penoyers (it was actually Jean’s bike) and Charlie taught my brother John how to ride.
Godspeed Charlie. One journey has ended, your next one has just begun.

Spent some lovely times with Jean and Charlie at our PA property along with Clete and Mary. He was instrumental in clearing many trees along with helping us to build our cabin. Loved the campfires and conversation. He was always happy and willing to help with his many skills. So very sorry to hear of his passing and extend our sympathies to the whole family

Mr. Penoyer was always very kind to my brother and me when we came to play with our childhood friends Curtis, Donna, and their cats. Although we lived on the same street for many years, I didn’t know that our fathers were both Cold War Navy veterans who then worked for Eastman Kodak. This Navy wife thanks you for your service, Mr. Penoyer. May you rest in eternal peace. The world is a better place because of you.

I grew up with Curt on Country Lane and yes Mr. Penoyer was Mr. Fix it. He would fix our bikes, min bikes and go-carts or anything you had. I remember many a time helping him and Curt split and stack firewood with the log splitter he built himself. He was one of a kind and will definitely be missed.

Farewell Charlie, you’ll certainly be missed. Thank you for all you did for us boys as we were growing up along side Curt. So many memories. One in particular that I’ll never forget was how Charlie came to our rescue at the High School. Using junk parts, we had constructed a large model of a spacecraft in order to celebrate our high school graduation. We were caught on school property with it and subsequently were detained for questioning by school administrators. Charlie walked into the office and identified himself. Using a serious tone, Charlie was asked if he was aware that we were in possession of this “spacecraft”. Charlie said “aware? Well yes I helped them build it!” Charlie broke the ice with good humor and smiles. Thanks to Charlie, the administrators decided to not press any harder with trespassing and mischief. They let us walk. Charlie was a great father and a great man. So glad to have known him!

Thank you, Charlie, for all you did for the Weaving Center, the Weavers' Guild of Rochester, and the entire Rochester weaving community. Jean, Donna, and Curt: I am so sorry for your loss. It is so difficult to lose such a great husband and father, for certain. May you feel comforted with loving memories.
In sympathy,
Denise Kovnat
