Obituary of Janet Essom

Janet Essom, age 80, of East Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully on August 18, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, kindness, and generosity. Janet was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rita and Robert Yandow; sister, Carol Hendrick; brother, James Yandow; and her loving companion, Dennis Essom, Sr. She is survived by her sons, Dennis Jr. (Phyllis) Essom and David Sr. (Julie Secora) Essom. Janet was a loving grandmother to Danielle (Justin) Mechetti, Mariah Essom, David Essom Jr., Devon Essom, Emily (Joe) Briggs, Dana Essom, and Frankie (Mercedes) Essom. She was a proud great-grandmother to Jake, Maddalyn, Julia, Charlette, Bryce, Miles, and Aston. Janet is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Janet’s life was defined by her passions and generous spirit. She found joy in cooking, turning her kitchen into a place of love and comfort where family and friends gathered to create lasting memories. Whether she was carefully selecting fresh ingredients at the Public Market or uncovering treasures at garage sales, Janet’s creativity and warmth shined. Janet had a successful career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield, as she was known for her strong work ethic and caring nature. Her generosity was boundless; she was always ready to help anyone in need. Her home was a welcoming haven, where everyone felt safe and loved. Janet's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew her; she will be missed dearly. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Strong Memorial Hospital.
