Obituary of Lawrence Barlak
Lawrence ("Larry"/"Yogi") Barlak passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, at home at the age of 89. He is survived by Charlotte Barlak (Hoke), his wife of 53 years of loving marriage; son, David Barlak (Todd Spicer); "cousins by the dozens" including Robert Ditko (Loretta) and Roland Hockey (Louise); brother-in-law Lawrence Hoke (Sandy Teeter); nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He is predeceased by parents, John and Veronica Barlak (Marchik); brothers, Richard (Joanne) and John (Arlene) and sisters, Geraldine (James Custer) and Eleanor (Bill Troska).
Lawrence was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in 1935. He moved to East Rochester, NY in 1962 after spending 4 years in the US Navy. He travelled back and forth often between New York and Pennsylvania. He met his wife ,Charlotte, on a blind date on one of those weekends. They were married in 1971 and had a son, David, who was born in 1974. Lawrence was a loving father and husband throughout his life. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees. His childhood nickname, "Yogi", was inspired by his love of Yogi Berra. Those closest to him called him by that name throughout his life.
Lawrence worked for the US Postal Service in East Rochester for nearly 40 years. He was also a member of The American Legion and a Freemason. He was an active member of the community of East Rochester and Saint Jerome's Catholic Church.
Lawrence will be cremated and a mass will be held at Saint Jerome's Catholic Church in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Lollypop Farm.
