Obituary of George J. Varga

George J. Varga, 79, passed away after almost a 6-year battle from the results of cancer re-occurrence in 2019.

Predeceased by his parents, Joseph L. Varga and Virginia Beckwith Varga, brother, Charles Paul Varga (Mary Lou Palange Varga), and the first love of his life, Lorrie Rodman

He is survived by the second love of his life, Rosemay Curran Varga, his wife of 54 years, his sons, Joseph, Paul, and Shawn, his grandchildren, Andrew, Haley, Addison, Landon, Gavin, Lucy, and Danica, great-granddaughter, Olivia, his sister, Betty Jane Head-Huggans (Jim), brothers and sisters-in law, nieces and nephews, and his Boy Scouting family.

George was born in Ithaca, NY and grew up in Genoa, NY. He lived on the family farm learning all the skills necessary to run a farm with animals and crops. He attended King Ferry school in grades Kindergarten through twelfth grade. He moved on to college where he earned a Fine Arts major at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology). He also took classes at Geneseo State College in order to teach. He taught art in several schools in Livingston County. From there he moved on his desired career goal of Graphic Design. He worked in advertising at JB Hunter, Star Markets and the Pittsford Post. He started his own Graphic Design business and with George Jameison he started “the Wedge” a neighborhood newspaper that was hand delivered. He then moved on to increased involvement in Boy Scouts. He started in Scouting as a youth and rejoined as an adult moving up the ranks from Assistant Den Leader though Scoutmaster of Troop 200, from there he became a MSC Properties volunteer and then onto Manager of the Massawepie Trading post from 2003 to 2021.In between these jobs he also coached South Side Little League baseball and multiple projects at St. Boniface Church

Sometimes you miss the writing on the wall. After his stay in SICU his body and mind met his heart in the same place and decided that it was time to transition to a calmer place.

Thank you for the kind care given him by those at his second last stop before his passing - the amazing team at the Highlands at Brighton Rehabilitation Center.

Thank you also for the equally amazing UR Hospice team that that went beyond their requirements to bring George formally into their care a day early.

And last but not least, thanks for the caring, gentle, and professional attention shown by his amazing cadre of doctors and nurses at the UR.
