Obituary of John Edwin Scheetz

Scheetz, John E. East Rochester: John passed away on June 9, 2010 at the Rochester Friendly Home at the age of 93 years, after a short illness. He was born on June 13, 1916 in Pottstown, PA, and moved to Newark NY as a youth. He grew up in Newark and graduated from Newark High School in 1933. After obtaining an Engineering degree from Cornell University in 1938, he served in the US Navy Construction Battalion (Sea Bees) during World War II in the Aleutian Islands At the time, he was one of five brothers serving overseas during the war. He was a long-time engineer at Rochester Gas and Electric Company, retiring in 1980. He married Leona Aplin in 1950 and raised four sons while living in East Rochester. His favorite times were spent hiking in the Adirondack Mountains, and he became a 46er, having climbed the 46 highest peaks there. John was predeceased by a son, John E. Scheetz, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Leona; 3 sons, Jeffrey Scheetz of Portland OR, Michael (Deborah) Scheetz of Bedford, NH & David (Amanda) Scheetz of Annandale, VA,; six grandchildren; 2 brothers, William (Carol) Scheetz of Newark, NY & James Scheetz of Sanford FL. ; several nieces & nephews. Friends may call FRIDAY 4-7pm at the HARLOFF Funeral Home 803 South Washington Street in East Rochester where John's Funeral Sevice will be held at 3:00pm on SATURDAY. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Please consider a contribution in John's memory to Boy Scout Troop #136 in East Rochester.
