Obituary of William Wolfgang Klinkert

William "Bill" Wolfgang Klinkert East Rochester: July 14, 2014 at the age of 91. Bill was predeceased by his parents Christian & Martha Klinkert, his brother, Helmut Klinkert and his two nieces & one nephew. Bill's family emigrated from his homeland in Germany and took up residence in Rochester in the early 1920's. After growing up in Rochester, most of Bill's life was spent serving his country in times of war and in times of peace. Bill had two careers, one with the US military and one with the Eastman Kodak Company. During WWII, he served in the Philippines with an army mapping unit. In the 1950's and through the 1960's, Bill served with the Air Force, both on active duty and in the reserves. During the Cold War of the 1970's and 1980's, he again served his country by working on space reconnaissance programs at Eastman Kodak. Bill retired from Kodak in 1983. Bill enjoyed many wonderful times at his cottage in Clayton NY, where he and his brother kept a boat and a martini glass. As a licensed pilot, he also enjoyed flying Cessnas out of the former Hyland Airport. Bill was an avid reader and collector of classic books. Much of his extensive library has been donated to nonprofit libraries and universities. He made many trips to his home town of Elsoff, Germany visiting with extended family. He is remembered by his relatives in Germany and his extended family and close friends here in the US. We will all miss him. Bill's Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am on FRIDAY in Creation Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park. No prior calling. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or the American Legion in memory of Bill.
