Obituary of Charles Philip Corea

Core, Charles P. Charles P. Corea, 92, of East Rochester, NY passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Jeanette (Leege) Corea of East Rochester (an amazing caregiver) and their four devoted children, Carey (Janice Aspridy) Corea, Nancy Sherman, Debra Corea (David Platoff), Douglas Corea (Martyna Magoon); 6 grandchildren, Stacy (Jason) Geppert, Shawn Sherman, Nicole Corea, Kyle Corea, Maxwell Platoff, Anastasia Platoff; and great-granddaughter, Charlie Alice Geppert. Charlie is also survived by his sisters, Josephine Neilson of Port St. Lucie, FL, Rose Corea, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Angeline and brothers, Ralph and Samuel. A WWII Veteran, Charlie served in the Army Air Force as a flight engineer and gunner. He was part of the ‘Bloody 100th’ mission, when his B17 bomber was shot down. He was injured by the propeller as he bailed out. Charlie spent the remainder of the war, 466 days, in the POW camp, Stalag 17. He was awarded the Air Medal, Conspicuous Service Cross and the Purple Heart. Charlie won the Man of the Year by the East Rochester rotary and was a member of the American Legion. Charlie “The Wedge” was an avid golfer. He was the longest tenured member, 61 years, of Midvale Country Club, where he won the club championship in 1973. Charlie’s gregarious nature and quick smile won him friends wherever he went. He retired in 1984 as owner/publisher of the East Rochester Shopping Guide, where Charlie entered into several symbiotic bartering arrangements with the local small businesses. His children enjoyed movie passes and goodies at Sweetland, and delighted on Friday afternoons when boxes from the bakery were brought home.  Friends are invited to call THURSDAY, August 28th 3-5pm at the HARLOFF Funeral Home, 803 South Washington St. in East Rochester. Service at 5pm. Friends are invited to share memories at a dinner reception and celebration of Charlie’s life, immediately following.
