Obituary of Margaret N. Ruth

Margaret (Peg) Nan Ruth, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, December 14th, 2014 at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, Penn Yan, New York. Family and friends may call on Friday, December 19th at the Harloff Funeral Home, 803 S. Washington St., East Rochester between the hours of 4 and 7 PM. A graveside service will be conducted at interment in the Mexico New York cemetery in the spring. Peg was predeceased by her husband, Clifford, and sister, Grace Whitney. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Gary) Alloco of Victor, son Michael (Barbara) Ruth of Penn Yan; grandchildren Kris (Henry) Lancaster, Tany (Sean) Boulger, David (Leticia) Ruth, Stephen Ruth; and 9 great-grandchildren. Peg was born on December 10th, 1916, in Oswego, New York, the daughter of the late Glenn A. and Fannie (Johnson) Buck. She and Cliff were high school sweethearts, were married in Mexico, NY on June 20th, 1937, and spent most of their years together in East Rochester, NY. Raised in homes where tradition, love, honesty, integrity and respect for others were family cornerstones, Peg and Cliff made these attributes part of their everyday life; instilling them in their children as well. Music was a very large part of Peg's life. At a very early age, she and her sister Grace would entertain family friends with piano duets in the family living room. She also played flute and piano for her high school band and glee club. She was a devoted member of the East Rochester Presbyterian church, where she was the organist from 1956 to 1965. From 1960 to 1980 she worked as a financial assistant for the East Rochester school system where she became friends with many of the teachers and administrators. After retiring, she and Cliff enjoyed living on Keuka Lake, and spending winters in Florida. Peg is best remembered for her total dedication to family and friends. Always quick with a smile and a hug, she will long be remembered for her compassion, and boundless capacity for love and caring for others. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
