Obituary of Joan B. Doran

Joan Doran (Bierce) Joan Doran, of Pittsford, NY, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2015 following an 8 year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Joan and her twin sister Jean (Bierce) Davis were born on October 18, 1936 to the late John and Janette (Lodor) Bierce. Joan graduated from Hamilton Central Schools in 1954 and received her LPN in nursing from Morrisville State College in 1956. Joan worked as an LPN at the Earlville Nursing Home and Hamilton Community Memorial Hospital. On February 14, 1981, Joan married Truman J. Doran and lived in Pittsford, NY until the time of her death. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, pets, all puzzles (word search, crossword), playing sequence with her good friends Wayne and Bonnie Smith and her daily walks to Tim Horton's. Joan was predeceased by her sisters Jean (Bierce) Davis, Judy (Bierce) Faulkner and a brother, John "Jack" Bierce. Joan's greatest love was her family. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Truman, her daughters, "The Groves Girls", Valerie (Daniel) Brogan of Liverpool, NY, Lori (Larry) Van Slyke of Nashville, TN and Bonnie (Thomas) Gibbons of Cocoa, FL; a brother, James (Linda) Bierce of Clifton Springs, NY; grandchildren, Joshua, Zachery, Amanda and Bridget; several nieces, nephews & cousins. Also leaves Truman's three children, Barbara McLendon, Robert Doran (Maryann) and Brian Doran. In keeping with Joan's wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral. Joan will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hamilton, NY, where there will be a graveside service. The date and time has not yet been decided. Our family wishes to thank the entire staff at James P. Wilmot Cancer Treatment Center at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY; with a very sincere and special thanks to Dr. J.
