Obituary of Margaret J. Anderson

Margaret Jane Anderson Margaret Jane Anderson, age 84, of Rochester, New York passed away peacefully at Wesley Gardens Nursing Home on Friday, July 10, 2015. Margaret was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 5, 1931 to Calperta and Mack Anderson. An avid swimmer, Margaret worked summers at the YWCA. The first in her family to pursue higher education, she attended West Virginia University where she received a degree in Art Education. After college, Margaret joined the Peace Corps and traveled the world. She had friends all over the world and collected dolls from many countries. She worked for the American Red Cross in Paris for several years and adopted a Standard French Poodle who she named "Mignon". Margaret later moved to Rochester, New York and in 1968 joined the Rochester City School District where she worked as an art teacher. In her spare time, she loved to paint and travel. Athletically inclined, she continued to swim and took up roller skating, and received several awards as part of her skating team. Margaret was a Rosicrucian and attended the Unity Church. After retiring in 1990, she purchased a home in Rochester and took much pleasure in gardening. She had the first of a series of massive strokes in 2003 which forced her to move into Wesley Gardens. Margaret never married and had no children. She was predeceased by her mother, father and by her siblings Harold Anderson, Carl Anderson, Mack Anderson Jr., Katherine Anderson and Madeline Harvey. She leaves to mourn her transition several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
