Obituary of Betty Jean Nichols

Betty Jean Nichols (nee Gentle) of Pittsford, age 90, passed from this world August 8, 2016 at Highland Hospital after a short illness. Betty was born in Rochester June 18, 1926 and was raised on Bowman St. at the former site of Gentle's Dairy that was a family business for many years until the early 1960's. Betty was the youngest of four children born to Ruth (nee Jelensperger) and Albert Gentle. She met and then married John B Nichols in 1951. Uncle Jack prede ceased Betty in 2001. Initially they lived in Rochester and then for many years in Pittsford NY. At the time of her death she resided at Glenmere Assisted Living. Betty's unassuming and at times retir ing nature did not keep her from functioning in many different roles in her adult life: food concession manager, apartment manager, homemaker, bookkeeper, and personal care assistant to name several. She was a loving Aunt to many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She also was a loyal and caring friend and kind to all she met. Betty was predeceased as well by both her niece, Carol Gentle Smith and Carol's husband, Lyle Smith, in April of this year. In ad dition to nieces and nephews she is survived by cousin, Eugene "Gene" Jelensperger, and wife Do rine of Penfield NY; and sister-in-law, Jeannette "Jinger", and hus band, Gilbert "Gil" Holtz of Fishers NY; and sister-in-law, Judy Duke low and husband, Jack of Isles of Capri, Naples FL. A celebration of her life and in terment will be held for family and friends at a later date. Arrange ments are made by Harloff Funeral Home in E. Rochester.
