Obituary of Jean Doremus

Doremus, Jean S. Penfield: Formerly of East Rochester, Jean died on the evening of March 6, 2011, peacefully at her home in Penfield, NY, after a long battle with dementia, just short of her 83rd birthday. She was surrounded by her family: husband of 64 years Warren S. Doremus, Jr.; son, Wyatt D. Doremus; daughter-in-law, Kathleen L. Doremus; daughter, Adair D. Priddle; granddaughters, Virginia Doremus and Simonie Priddle; grandsons, Daric Priddle and Benjamin Doremus. She is also survived by grandsons, Wyatt D. Priddle of Miami, FL, and Joshua Doremus of Chicago, IL; and great dranddaughters, Maddy and Sierra. Jean was a descendant of the Harris family, among the earliest settlers of Penfield. In honor of her ancestry, Jean was for years a member of the Penfield Heritage Association, and of the Windsor Square Homeowners Association. An information systems pioneer, she worked for the data processing departments of the County of Monroe and Rochester-Monroe County Savings Bank, and for the technical writing department for corporate systems at PAYCHEX. She had a bachelor of science degree from Empire State College and a masters degree in public administration from the State University at Brockport. Her great interest in education was manifest in the 9 years she served on the East Rochester Board of Education and the area's Parent Teachers Association. In the sixties, she created the Books Between Bites program for East Rochester schools, and was a columnist for the town's newspaper. Jean's public service also included time as a mediator for the county court system. Her travel experiences were far and wide, including 35 cruises to various corners of the world. Numerous people among her wide circle of friends regarded her as one of the finest, most honorable and talented people they ever knew. Her husband said of her, she was not only the idol of his life she was his life. Memorial Service for Jean will be held at 2:00pm on SATURDAY June 11, 2011 at Browncroft Community Church 2530 Browncroft Blvd. Rochester/Penfield, NY.
