Obituary of Lawrence Owen Upton

Upton, Lawrence East Rochester: Having led a full and active life, Lawrence Owen Upton "Larry" passed into the Lord's hands on March 27, 2011 at the age of 95. He was born June 5, 1915 in Wilson, NY to Leah Maize (Bickford) Upton and George H. Upton. There he grew up on a farm with his five brothers and one sister, who have predeceased him. Larry served in the US Navy during World War II as a submariner in the Pacific Theatre and again during the Korean War. He was in the American Legion and a member of the Masonic Organization where he was Past Master (1951) of the Lockport (NY) Lodge #73. Larry enjoyed music, gardening, hunting, fishing and camping among many other activities. He was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church of East Rochester, NY where he lived with his family for 56 years. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Pierce) Upton; daughters, Jane (Bud) Lawhun of Bucyrus, OH and Marla Wood (Mike Alban) of Tarreytown. MD; grandson, James Upton Wood; and great grandson, Hadyn Michael Wood as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 10 - 11:30am on SATURDAY April 9, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, 119 West Elm Street in East Rochester. A Memorial Service will follow in the Church Sanctuary (11:30am). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Larry's memory to the First Baptist Church.
