Obituary of Aurelia A. Ahern

Aurelia Anne (Rel) Ahern, 83, of East Rochester, NY, passed peacefully on February 28, 2019 in Pittsford, NY.

Aurelia Anne Tatar lived a full and beautiful life. She went to Mumford High School in Detroit, Michigan and graduated with Excellence in Scholarship. She went to Michigan State University and graduated June 9, 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science. She married her sweetheart Richard John Ahern September 28th of that same year. Rel and Dick spent some time living in Germany while he served in the US Army and she loved all the adventures that came with living abroad. After they moved to Rochester New York with their family of 3 children, she worked as a social worker for the City of Rochester. She continued to work after she retired, working many years at the Country Club Wegman’s Pharmacy. She was very active and loved going on walks and hikes and playing sports. She enjoyed nature and had lovingly kept gardens all around her home. Rel also loved animals and always had cats and dogs in her home. She also loved chocolate and was a frequent customer at Stever's Candies on Park Avenue in Rochester. Some of her favorite places to visit were places with beaches, shells, and ocean views. Among her favorites were Nantucket Island and Sanibel Island. She was an avid reader and loved mysteries as well as anything by Jane Austen. Rel was very active in her church and was a leader in the Young Women’s program teaching and inspiring many young women. She also participated in the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York for many years. Family has always been her greatest love. Especially spending many happy years with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spent her final years living in the Friendly Home. She loved it there and always appreciated all the visitors and the kind staff who took such loving care of her; especially Beth, Sue, Laura, Angela, Donna, Stephanie, Tina, Martha, Asia, Lilly, and Singh. Aurelia “Rel” “Rel Belle” “Rellie” Ahern lived an inspiring, happy life and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lollypop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester or Friendly Senior Living.
