Obituary of John Leo Hunsinger

John Leo Hunsinger of Penfield, NY passed away on December 10, 2020 at age 88. During a very busy week in June of 1950 Dad turned 18 on the 21st of June, the North Koreans sent approximately 80,000 troops into South Korea on June 25th, Ithaca High School graduated 274 seniors at Bailey Hall at Cornell University on June 27th, and President Truman committed the first US Military supplies to Korea that same day. In a little over a month, Dad and several of his buddies enlisted in the US Air Force on the 3rd of August. Dad met my Mother, Janice (née Kleckler), during the Summer of 1955 right after she graduated from Elmira Free Academy High School. She was working in Elmira part-time as a bookkeeper. After my parents met Mom went to college in the Fall. She went to Alfred Technical College located in Alfred, NY (a little over an hour away). She became a member of Delta Chi Omega sorority. Dad started going to events at Alfred to see her. Eventually, Dad got a job at General Electric in Ithaca as a draftsman. In May 1957 Mom received her Associates Degree in Applied Science. Mom moved to the Washington, DC area that summer to work for a doctor, living in Silver Spring, MD. During the Christmas holidays of 1957 Mom and Dad were engaged, and then married on October 4th, 1958 in Elmira, NY. It was a “double ring” ceremony, wherein both the bride and groom got a ring. Dad used his technical experience from the Air Force to get an engineering job with Raytheon, and they relocated to Newport, Rhode Island where both their sons, John Robert and David Scott were born. In 1966 they moved to Penfield, NY, and lived there ever since. In 2004 John Robert and his wife Debbie had twin girls, his granddaughters Jennifer Lynn and Katie Rose. Mom and Dad were married for 62 years.
