Obituary of Robert F. Persichitti

Robert F. “Al” Persichitti age 102, passed away peacefully, in a hospital in Heide, Germany on his way to recognize the 80th Anniversary of the invasion at Normandy, France “D-Day”. He was born April 7, 1922, in Calumet, PA. Mr. Persichitti taught vocational school for 16 years in Rochester, NY. He was also a self-employed carpenter. Robert was a US Navy WWII Veteran. He served aboard the USS Eldorado during the invasion of Iwo Jima (February 19 - March 26, 1945) and Okinawa (April 1 - June 21, 1945). He saw the raising of the American Flag on Mt. Surabachi twice from the deck of the ship. He had the honor of flying to Washington, DC as a guest of the Honor Flight Rochester to visit the WWII Memorial and all the other memorials. Robert was a longtime member of the Church of St. Jerome, East Rochester, NY., World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA, American Legion Post #1917, East Rochester, NY, and VFW Perinton Memorial Post #8495, 300 Macedon Center Road, Fairport, NY 14450. Robert was an author of 2 books about the story of his life from his childhood in Pennsylvania all the way through to his 102nd birthday. Survivors include his nieces and nephews: Mary (Mark) Biernbaum, Joe (Linda) Stoker, Mike (Vickie) Billow, Betty (James) Smith, Judy (Eric) Rogers and Jean Berry; great nephews, Jeffrey, Brian and Sean Raschiatore, and many more numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews throughout the country especially in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and New York and his close friend and travel companion: Al (Jennifer) DeCarlo. Preceding Robert “Al” in death are his beloved wife of 65 years, Elgina Persichitti; parents, Vincent and Elizabeth Persichitti; siblings, John (Edith) Persichitti, Angelina “Julia” (Chris) Perrota, Andrew “Bau” (Filomena “Fanny”) Persichitti, Yolanda “Helen” (William) Yanelli, Amadeus “Imes” (Betty) Persichitti, Emma (Stanley) Stoker, Francesco “Frank” (Thelma) Persichitti, Rita (Joe) Billow, Rosella “Babe” (Robert “Bob”) Milko and brother in law, Ted Billow, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17 from 4-7 pm at Harloff Funeral Home, 803 S. Washington Street, East Rochester, NY. Family and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Church of St. Jerome, 207 Garfield St., East Rochester, NY 14445. A committal service with US Navy Military Honors and Entombment will be held at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd. Pittsford, NY 14534.
