Obituary of Michael James McCaffery
Michael James McCaffery sadly passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. He was born to Grace and George McCaffery of East Rochester on January 31, 1948.
In 1975, Mike married his sweetheart, Christine McCaffery. They cherished their time together for over 49 years and they lived and loved through all of life’s adventures. Mike’s grace and positive spirit brought everyone together. Family was always very important to Mike. Sadly, Mike was predeceased by his parents and his oldest grandson, Kolin Christopher Michael McCaffery. Michael is the proud and loving father to Michele (Nick) Mascioletti, Tracy McCaffery, K.C. (Sheila) McCaffery and Kelly (Allan) Peters. He will be missed by his loving family which includes his sister, Joanne (Charles) Inglis; grandchildren, Sarina, Taryn, Aidan, Liam, Mason, Nolan, Molly; his nieces, cousins, as well as many friends, past and present.
Michael was a proud, hard-working Xerox employee for 40 years where he made many special friends. He enjoyed his friendships with his East Rochester classmates throughout his life. His cherished childhood memories stayed with him his entire life.
Mike enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. But most of all, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family whether those special moments were spent out on the lake boating and swimming, enjoying walks on the beach, sharing dinner as a family, playing and laughing with his grandchildren or enjoying a beer with friends. Mike also enjoyed bowling, baseball, golf and successful trips to the casino with his son. During baseball season, Yankee games were always a priority and with just one look at Mike, you knew if the Yankees won.
Michael brought immeasurable understanding to all family members. He was a good listener, a role model and a true gentleman. The warmth, wisdom and joy he brought to everyone will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Mike’s legacy of integrity, kindness and love will be carried on through his family whom he loved with every fiber of his being.
Calling hours are from 3:00-7:00pm on Monday, August 5th at Harloff Funeral Home, 803 South Washington Street, East Rochester. Mike’s funeral service will be led by Father Jim Hewes, his lifelong friend. Serving as pallbearers are K.C. McCaffery, Aidan McCaffery, Allan Peters, Nick Mascioletti, Matt Pinkney and Mark Mungenast. Mike’s Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jerome’s Church, 207 Garfield Street, East Rochester at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 6th. Mike will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Michael will always be looked up to by his entire family. He will be deeply missed, but our memories will be a comfort to all who knew him. We will never forget Mike’s great smile and beautiful blue eyes!
