Obituary of John A. Reitz

March 16, 2015 at age 68. Survived by his wife, Bonnie Reitz, daughter and son-in-law Charlotte Reitz Landahl and Mark Landahl, son and daughter-in-law Allen and Jessica Reitz, mother-in-law Sylvia Watkins, his two granddaughters Casey and Abbey Landahl,sister Beverly Reitz Hall, sister and brother-in-law Wesley and Carl McLaughlin, nieces Katie and Candi, nephews Christopher and Walter, family, dear friends, and his "kids" in the East Rochester schools. After attending Hillsdale College where he ran on the cross-country team and met his wife Bonnie, John went to officer training school and served as an officer in the Navy. John was placed on shore duty at the Naval Support Facility in Da Nang during the Vietnam War. He then attended Miami University of Ohio where he completed his master's degree and then became a guidance counselor. He worked in Ohio as a counselor but spent most of his career working with students and the community of East Rochester where he touched the lives of every student, parent and staff member he came in contact with. Mr. Reitz was awarded the "Man of the Year" award from the YMCA for his work with students. He could often be found on the sidelines or coaching any and every sport. He coached track and field, cross-country, tennis, football, and basketball during his career. In addition, he played basketball every Sunday with a group of East Rochester students who tried to keep up with him! He looked forward to it every week. John was very active in his church as well and often found delivering sermons for the minister on Saturdays and Sundays and volunteering with various events. He will be dearly missed by his family, his Macedon Center United Methodist Church family, and his East Rochester Community family. Friends may attend John's memorial service at 3 PM on Thursday, March 19th at The United Church of Pittsford, 123 South Main St., with calling hours to follow until 7 PM.
