I am sad that Dee has left the stage. She was a wonderful mentor to me when I was writing a memoir piece that was related to an encounter in Crimea with a Crimean citizen years ago. She critiqued my effort and, after many drafts, it became good enough to be published in the D&C op-ed page several years ago. Later, with this new skill, I wrote another op-ed piece for the D&C related to my visit to the only surviving synagogue in Vilnius, Lithuania. I received many warm and emotional letters from readers about that article. It never would have been written except for the influence of Dee Hogan. She had wonderful advice and suggestions. I remain always indebted to her.
May she rest in peace and may the angels welcome her to paradise.
I am sorry that I won't be able to attend the service on Friday.

Dear Bill. So very sorry to hear of the loss of Dee. She is remembered by many with fondness, including staff of Lavery Library.

To Dee's loved ones,
What a spirited, caring, hilarious lady you cherished. I taught English & African American Studies at Fisher for a number of the years Dee was a member of the English Department. I loved seeing her and her beloved husband coming in and out of classes. They were always together & always energized & ready with a story.
Of course, you will miss Dee but know that she touched, not only the lives of her students, but those of us she taught with as well.

I am so sorry to hear that Dee passed away. She was a wonderful colleague at Fisher and brought so much creativity to the classroom. I remember so many wonderful conversations with her at lunch (meeting her after her swim, of course!) about teaching, about books, about spirituality, about so many things. I will always treasure her loving spirit, her infectious joy, and her absolute and total dedication to her students. How lucky I was to be friends with Dee!
Bill, my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of deep loss.

Ms. Hogan,
What a wonderful teacher and person you were on Earth. May that energy continue wherever we go. I remember you had been learning to sing Memory from the play Cats, and sang it for us in class to get feedback. As a high school teacher now myself, that was brave and generous of you. Thank you.
Carol
