Obituary of Geraldine Ruocco Hogan

East Rochester, N.Y. Dee passed away peacefully on Labor Day, September 4, 2017 with her loving husband Bill at her side. Predeceased by her parents Geraldine and Benjamin Ruocco of Corning and brother in law, Herbert Boerner of Manlius. Dee was born on December 12, 1943 in Corning, N.Y. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School and Corning Free Academy. She went on to earn a B.A. and M.A. in English and Education from SUNY Geneseo. Upon graduation Dee embarked upon a 45-year career in education, 34 of which were as a high school English teacher at Rush Henrietta School District. Upon her retirement from RH, she taught another 8 years as an Adjunct Professor at St. John Fisher College. A unique and spirited individual, Dee was passionate about her endeavors. She had a lovely voice and sang on the Corning radio station on Saturdays when she was in high school. As a means of giving to others, she fully embraced her career in teaching, enabling students to grow and achieve their full potential. A prolific writer, she wrote many insightful poems and touching memoirs. Combining her teaching and writing talents, Dee gratuitously conducted "Write The Night Away" evening seminars at Fisher for many years after her retirement. And in the family tradition, she was a die-hard Yankee fan in so much that she made a pilgrimage to Yankee Stadium to kiss the dug-out and back home mimicked with her beautiful voice Kate Smith's rendition of "God Bless America." Her contagious laugh, smile and vivid imagination will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Survived by the love of her life and husband of 46 years, Bill; siblings Joan Boerner of Manlius, Patricia Marx of Rochester, Kathy (Jerry) Schaefer of Rochester and Joseph (Lynn) Ruocco of Clearwater Beach, Fla.; nieces Stacey (Joel) Cohen, Katie (Chris) Hainsworth, Kristen (Brian) Fields, and April (Brendan) Ayers; nephews Eric Boerner, Ryan (Amy) Marx, Benjamin Schaefer, and Nick (Annie) and Mike (Marie) Ruocco; great-nieces Holly Cohen, Sarah Fields, Madison Marx, and Fiona Ayers; and great-nephews Jake Cohen, Josh and Adam Marx, and Sam and Jacob Fields. Also survived by many hundreds of students. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15 at the All Seasons Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd., Pittsford followed by a luncheon at Dee's favorite restaurant, the Northside Inn, 311 N. Washington St., East Rochester. In lieu of flowers, and because of Dee's dedication to teaching, donations in her honor may be made to the Society for the Protection and Care of Children https://spcc.cloverdonations.com/support-spcc/.
