Tribute to Sam Urzetta:
By Rennie McQuilkin,
Simsbury, CT
I will never forget being at a Red Wings twilight doubleheader when Sam Urzetta and Frank Stranahan were coming down to the wire at the U.S. Amateur tournament. Every few minutes the announcer would give the latest update: "Urzetta is on the fringe..., Stranahan has found the bunker..." I have no idea how the Red Wings fared that night, and I think everyone there was far more interested in the tournament than the game. After all, it was Sea Biscuit and War Admiral all over again. It was East Rochester vs. the whole of the Champion Sparkplug dynasty. The cheer that went up when Sam pulled it out was defaening! That sort of triumph can never die.

I did not know Sam but I have known Helen for over 20 years, and as I read of his character, I see the apple didn't fall far from the tree! What a special man to have such a wonderful family!
Sending loving thoughts of comfort and warm wishes of beautiful memories to the entire family!

Sam Urzetta was a true inspiration and mentor for me. I was referred to him by his brother, Fred, at the age of 15. In a year, Sam taught me so much about the game of golf. I owe much of my passion and skill for the game to him. I will deeply think about the invaluable times and lessons we spent together at CCR and reflect on his wonderful life! Warm Regards to his family! Sincerely, Scott Holahan. Columbus, OH (formerly of Victor, NY)
